The Valley City Babe Ruth baseball team didnât necessarily play badly in its final game of the annual Pizza Corner Classic.
The problem in its 10-0 loss to Steele afternoon was that a few unlucky breaks added up and left the team with a 6th place finish in its own tournament.
The two-day tournament wrapped up Sunday at Charlie Brown Memorial Field and featured teams from southwestern North Dakota.
âWe had a snowball effect,â said coach Lance Lukes. âWe made a mistake, we made another one after that, and it led to a big inning for them.â
Post 60 begins week of league play
The Valley City Post 60 baseball team kicks off a week full of Section 1 play with a home game today against Enderlin at 5:30 p.m. at Charlie Brown Memorial Field.
Post 60 has home games this week with Wahpeton Wednesday, Great Bend Thursday, and Galchutt Friday. All have a 5:30 p.m. start.
Local golfer hits hole-in-one
Former Valley City High School basketball standout Kami Anderson has accomplished plenty since graduating in 1984.
She eventually took her skills to the prestigious Stanford University, where she remains the 18th highest scorer in school history, and today still holds Class A state tournament records for most points in a game (47), most free throws in a game (17) and most field goals in a game (17).
