VC JO Volleyball team goes 2-2 at tournament

Valley City was well-represented at the North Country Region Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships last weekend in Jamestown. Valley City’s 14U team lost its opening matches to Mandan and the Bismarck-based ND Premier, but beat North Fargo and Jamestown to win the Bronze Division championship. The team, which includes players from both the Valley City and Barnes County North school districts, wraps up its season this weekend and has medaled in three of five tournaments.

The Valley City High School girls basketball team honored its standout performers April 22. Pictured are (back) Megan McDaniel, Amanda Tangen, Allyson Suhr, Jenna Jacob; and (front) Clarissa Olson, Jessica Denholm and Tori Enstad. Suhr led the team with four awards, including MVP (voted on by the team) and for leading the team in points, rebounds, and blocks. Jacob won the Hi-Liner Coaches award and led the team in steals. McDaniel led the Hi-Liners in assists, Enstad led the team in free throw percentage.

William Jansen Invitational results
The Valley City High School girls and boys track and field teams took the second and 10th places, respectively, at the William Jansen Invitational meet Tuesday in Valley City.
The boys were led by pole vaulter Paul Viland, who took second with a vault of 12 feet, 6 inches. Distance runner Nick Lee took third in the 1,600 meter run and sixth in the 3,200 meter run.
Seniors Jenna Jacob and Allyson Suhr led the girls team, each getting a win.
Jacob won the 200 meter dash in 26.88 seconds and Suhr won the 3,200 in 12:26.38.
