The Valley City High School baseball team closed out its second consecutive winless season with a double header Saturday against Grand Forks Central at Charlie Brown Memorial Field in Valley City.
Though the Hi-Liners dropped the second game 16-2, it was a 6-2 loss in game one, one of the teamâs best efforts of the year, that impressed coach Trevar Hansen.
âThat was a way better game,â he said. âWe pitched pretty well, played pretty good defense and we hit the ball okay. Thatâs obviously baseball, but I mean thatâs kind of what we havenât done a ton of out here.â
Valley City High School senior Kierstin Lorenz (pictured) ended her senior season as the Hi-Linerâs only member of the All-Eastern Dakota Conference team. The tennis team ended its season Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the EDC regional tournament in Grand Forks and will have no representatives at the state meet. The Hi-Liners pulled plenty of upsets in the individual tournament, including consecutive upset wins by Sara Gilbertson and Sam Coit over Red Riverâs top singles player, Katie Sween.
