Valley City High School senior Kierstin Lorenz has come as close as you can get to the state girls tennis tournament.
Each of the last two years, sheâs lost in a state qualifying match at the Eastern Dakota Conference regional tournament.
âHeartbreakers,â she said.
This year, she isnât approaching the EDC tournament any differently. Same routine, same goal â getting one more trip to Fargo for the state tournament.

It's not every day that a baseball team is forced to play eight players.
Nor is it a situation that Valley City High School baseball coach Trevar Hansen ever predicted he'd have to play with.
But in a 20-6 loss in the second game of a doubleheader sweep to Devils Lake Monday at Charlie Brown Field, the Hi-Liners caught a stroke of bad luck right as the team seemed on the verge of its first win.
Instead, the Hi-Liners had a game-ending injury to Brett Rockneberg in the second inning that forced the team to play short handed for the final four innings.
