Valley City High School senior Paul Viland, pictured during a home meet earlier this month, was one of two Hi-Liners to qualify for state at the Shanley Invitational Friday in Moorhead, Minn. Viland posted a personal best of 12 feet, six inches in the pole vault to qualify. Jenna Jacob, who had previously qualified in the 4x100 meter relay and the 100 dash, qualified in the 200 with a time of 26.84 seconds.
Weekend games postponed
Multiple Valley City High School teams had games postponed due to bad weather Friday.
The weather affected a home softball game with Maple Valley/Enderlin, a home tennis match with Grand Forks Central and a road baseball game against against Fargo North.
As of Sunday, the baseball and softball games were still awaiting a make-up date. The tennis match will be played today at 3:30 p.m.

The VCHS tennis and baseball teams are at home today.
The tennis team plays a match with Grand Forks Central at 3:30 p.m., which was rescheduled from Friday.
The Valley City State University softball season ended with a 5-2 loss to Jamestown College in an elimination game Sunday at the the last Dakota Athletic Conference Tournament in Mayville.
Jamestown College jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring two in the top of the second and fourth before Cyndi Figol got the Vikings on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Vikings later pushed across one more runner. Jamestown added one more in the top of the seventh inning.
