Valley Twisters start search for new coach

April 10, 2012

The Valley Twisters gymnastics club has started the search for a new head coach and executive director deciding to part ways with Jon Liardi Monday night.
"The long-term best interest, with respect to safety of students and growth of program, wasn't to have him on board as a coach and director," President Bobby Koepplin said Tuesday.
Liardi said he was asked Wednesday morning to turn in a letter of resignation, though he was unsure whether he would.

Lack of depth hurting Hi-Liner baseball team

April 10, 2012

JAMESTOWN — Suffice to say, the Valley City baseball team hasn’t had the smoothest start to its season.
For one, the team currently has a handful of ineligible players, leaving only nine players to fill out the roster.
The result is nine guys, some playing out of position, who are forced to take all the at-bats, pitch all the innings and hold down the fort until some of the missing pieces are eligible later this month.

NDSU football scrimmage marks halfway point in spring season

April 10, 2012

FARGO, N.D.--Linebacker Grant Olson had a pick six and running back Matt Jones turned some heads during North Dakota State football’s controlled 60-play scrimmage played on a blustery Saturday, April 7, on Dacotah Field.
NDSU football moved into the second half of spring practice with an uptempo scrimmage that featured a little bit of everything.
On the second play of the scrimmage, Olson, a 6-foot, 226-pound junior from Plymouth, Minnesota (Wayzata H.S.), stepped in front of the intended receiver in the left flat and raced 40 yards into the end zone with the early score.

The Valley City State University baseball team split its double header with Dickinson State Friday, finishing the series at 2-2.
The Vikings lost the first game of the double header 1-0 in seven innings, and won the second 12-8 in nine innings.
The first game was pitchers dual, as the Vikings got another strong performance from Derek Zitzow, who allowed only four hits.
Defensively, the Vikings had three errors, including one in the sixth inning that allowed Dickinson outfielder Jacob Muir to reach base and later score the only run of the game.

Vikings' offense falters in sweep to DSU

April 10, 2012

For the Valley City State University softball team, the final game of a four game series against Dickinson State was a bit refreshing.
After scoring no runs in the first three games of the series, including a 4-0 loss earlier Friday, the Vikings finally started producing runs, held a short lead, and nearly overcame a three-run deficit in the top of the seventh inning.
But a game-ending grounder by Hayley Bevan dashed the Vikings’ hope for a win and gave Dickinson the series sweep, ending the game with an 8-7 final score.
