VCSU women bring experience into second straight NAIA tournament

No. 8 seeded Valley City State starts play Thursday at 1:45 p.m. against No. 1 seeded College of the Ozarks.

Games can be viewed for a small fee at NAIA.org.
There will be a local viewing party Thursday at the Valley City Town and Country Club, hosted by the VCSU Century Club and also at Pizza Corner.

Sports Digest: Maple Valley keeps season alive

The Maple Valley High School girls basketball team had a strong fourth quarter Monday to advance to the semifinals of the Region 1 tournament in Lisbon.
The Raiders beat Milnor 64-47 in the quarterfinal game.
Maple Valley led 47-42 at the end of the third quarter, but then limited Milnor to five points in the fourth.
Rylee Nudell connected on 11-15 shots from the field and went 7-12 from the free-throw line to finish with 29 points. Cassie Pautz had 15 points.
The Raiders play Kindred tonight at 6 p.m. in the tournament semifinals.

Sports Digest: Moore gains All-American status in two events, VCSU baseball, Class B girls regional tourneys to start

The Valley City State University track and field team crowned an All-American at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships, which took place over the weekend at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Freshman Darien Moore took fifth place in the weight throw event, placing him as an All American. He had a recorded distance of 18.87 meters in the finals, which finished him two centimeters behind the fourth place finisher.

Hi-Liner girls finish season at EDC tournament

FARGO — Looking back on his team’s season, Valley City High School girls basketball coach Jim McDaniel was pleased with how it went.
“I thought it was a great season,” he said, noting the progress the team has made in recent years.
The team ended the season Friday with a 55-44 loss to Fargo Davies in the Eastern Dakota Conference regional tournament at the Fargo Civic Center. McDaniel said it was the first time the Hi-Liners advanced past the play-in game in nearly seven years.
“Our program is moving in the right direction,” he said.
