All throughout the Barnes County Tournament, the Milnor High School basketball team brought a size element that tested every team the Bison matched up against.
Even though LaMoure/Litchville-Marion lacked the size, they played their game, pulling away late in a 61-51 win over Milnor in the third place game of the Barnes County Tournament.
It ended what LLM coach Darren Thielges called a “fantastic tournament” for the team.
For the last three seasons, the boys edition of the Barnes County Basketball Tournament has come down to two teams — Valley City High School and Maple Valley High School.
But not even Maple Valley coach Jay Kocka would have predicted that Saturday's 47-46 win for the Raiders at W.E. Osmon Fieldhouse would have been that close.
"Give Valley City credit. With their zone they ran, we didn't attack too much but we hung around and gave ourselves a shot," he said.

FARGO — For all the work the North Dakota State University football did all season to prepare for a shot at their second straight NCAA Division I football championship, the ultimate yes or no seemed to hinge on one play in Friday's 23-20 win over Georgia Southern University at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome.
With 3:10 left in the game, the Bison had a fourth down with three yards to go at the GSU 5-yard line.
So the Bison gave it to quarterback Brock Jensen, who gutted it straight up the middle on a quarterback draw, getting five yards and the game-winning touchdown.
