As Mari Milender prepared for her first USA Gymnastics Level 9 meet last winter, she took a minute to soak it all in.
âI started in the USAG program late so Iâve always been behind some of the girls that were younger than me,â said Milender, a senior at Valley City High School. âThe first Level 9 meet, I remember getting ready to step on the floor, Iâm like âWow. Iâm with the big dogs now. I can say Iâm a decent, good gymnast.â
âJust that realization is great after youâve worked so hard for that, it feels so good.â
The morning of his interview for the open Valley City State University cross country and track and field coach position, Ken Frenette woke up about six in the morning and took a jog.
He went around Valley City and gave him a chance to check out the campus. He instantly got a good feeling.
âIt seems like a pretty special place,â Frenette said.
Frenette was named the head coach of the teams Dec. 23 and will start working with the track teams next week.
