Baade Named Dispatch Coordinator

Barnes County Commissioners have named Rhoda Baade Barnes County Dispatch coordinator, along with authorizing her a $2 per hour raise. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

VC Bars Can Now Stay Open Until 2 a.m.

Starting today, bars in Valley City can stay open until 2 a.m. The City of Valley City met late last year with bar owners and residents to update its alcohol ordiance and decided that they would allow bar owners to stay open to the state maximum time of 2 a.m.

Following the publication of a title and penalty clause in Friday's Times-Record, the new alcohol ordinance takes effect, said Valley City City Attorney Russ Myhre.
The decision to stay open until 2 a.m. is up to each bar owner.

Court Clerk Wants Office to Go State

Eagles Packed for NDWS Luncheon

Valley City's Eagle's Club was packed Thursday for the annual North Dakota Winter Show Women's Division Luncheon.
Division officer Mary Ann Leier, who introduced the afternoon, said this year's crowd was larger than last year's group.

New FCCU Opens Thursday

Valley City's new First Community Credit Union opened in its new location Thursday.
Branch manager Dean Rohrich said there are a few last minute things that need to be done but construction is nearly complete. The sign was put up Wednesday.

Dogs Visit Winter Show Wednesday

Diane Baarstad, left, and Kathy Martin, center, of the Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals, and Sophia Hansen show dog Meeka some love Wednesday at the North Dakota Winter Show's dog day.

The SVFA and Jamestown-based rescue group Prairie Paws Rescue were at the Winter Show with dogs available for adoption alongside a dog stunt team, Canine Stars, which performed three shows throughout the day.

Barnes County Commissioners are encouraging small Barnes County communities to establish house numbers and street names or numbers in an attempt to make it easier for first responders and fire departments to respond to emergency calls. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.

Open Door: End the R-Word

The Open Door Center wants to spread the word to end the R-word. Wednesday, residents and staff at the Open Door Center in Valley City donned shirts saying "Shred the R-Word" in an effort to raise awareness about the hurtfulness surrounding the word "retarded."

Meeting Tuesday, Barnes County Commissioners voted 4-1 to add a seventh road officer to the Barnes County Sheriff Department. Commissioner John Froelich voted no. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.

VCPS Gets $2K from Shopko

Customers who visited Valley City's Shopko Hometown store from Dec. 1 through Dec. 24, 2013, helped contribute $2,000 to the Valley City Public School District.
