Faith Lutheran Finds New Place to Worship; ATF Offers Reward; Bank Foward Donates $10K

Faith Lutheran Church has found a new location for the congregation to worship at 575 10th Street Southwest No. 3. Meanwhile, Bank Forward donated $10,000 to its recovery fund, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information on the fire last month.

Junior Duck Stamp Artists Sought

Valley City High School student Destiny Winkler took first of show in the 2013 Junior Duck Stamp contest after receiving an honorable mention in the 2012 competition.
Contest sponsors are seeking young people to participate in the 2014 contest.

Many Events Planned for Women's Weekend

The Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting another women's weekend this Saturday and Sunday. Many area businesses are offering plenty to taste, make and try in a weekend designed just for women.
Kay Vinje, Chamber executive vice president, said, "The weekend is full of interesting, fun, invigorating things to do. This will be a great girl's weekend. Gather up some friends and relatives and take it all in."

Boutique Opening At Straus Mall

Today Valley City's renovated Straus Mall officially opens for business, with the opening of the Lady Bell Boutique, a brand new business started by Kari Lindemann.

UPDATE: Cinema Flix Movie Theater to Open Thursday

Cinema Flix, Valley City's new movie theater, plans to open one day earlier than previously announced. The theater will open Thursday, Nov. 7, with two showings of Thor 2 and Free Birds, said owner Jeremy Zako.
Free Birds will play at 7 p.m. in 3-D and 7:20 p.m. in 2-D on Thursday, and Thor 2 will play at 9:20 p.m. in 3-D and 9:40 p.m. in 2-D.
Then, on Friday, the theater will start its regular hours, with Thor 2 and Free Birds showing twice in the afternoon and twice in the evening.

Large Photo of Nome on Display at Museum

A large panoramic photo of the small Barnes County town Nome in the 1920s is the latest installment of a Nome display in the Barnes County Historical Society Museum.
The photo, which spans 12 feet in length, and other Nome relics, were donated by Randy Peterson, founder and president of the Nome Community Historical Association.

Fact Finders Make Ruling on School Impasse

A North Dakota fact finding commission recommended the base pay for Valley City Public School teachers be increased by $100 and teachers would continue to advance on the salary schedule for time served and for educational credits earned. This would cost the Valley City Public School District about $101,000 and could be offset by savings in replacing teachers who recently retired or resigned including one teacher who was not replaced.
