VC McDonalds Delayed, not Abandoned

Developers still plan to build a McDonalds in Valley City, though some red tape from the state slowed construction.

According to Dave Andersen, Valley City Building Inspector, developers are in the process of obtaining permits for the new restaurant, which is planned off Winter Show Road behind the Wagon Wheel Inn near KLJ. Before a building permit can be issued, the state of North Dakota needs to approve plans for storm water waste disposal.

According to Andersen, this permit was delayed, but a request was made to expedite the process. The plan should be approved soon.

VC Man Rescues Fargo Girl

Valley City's Rich Plecity rescued a Fargo teenage girl from possible drowning Saturday while walking his dog Saturday in Fargo. Plecity, owner of Rich Plecity Excavating, said Thursday, “A young girl in a swimsuit jumped off a bridge on the south side hanging onto a rope.” More in Friday's issue of the Times-Record.

Remenber: Memorial Day Activities Planned throughout the Area

Children and many adults may have Monday off for the Memorial Day holiday, but Valley City and Barnes County will be filled with events recognizing the contribution of service people.
Valley City will have its annual Memorial Day parade, and memorial services will be conducted at cemeteries in and near Valley City and around Barnes County.
Scott Crump, Barnes County Veterans Service Officer, said Thursday memorial services will be conducted at the following cemeteries:
*8 a.m. Hillside Cemetery – Eagles Auxiliary
*8:15 a.m.St. Catherine Cemetery – American Legion Auxiliary

City Approves Shared-Use Path

During a regular meeting of the Valley City City Commission Tuesday, commissioners approved a shared-use path along Main Street from I-94 Exit 290 on the west end of the city. Read more in Friday's Times-Record.

Library Friends Consider Non-Profit

A new committee has been formed to come up with plans for starting a library foundation to manage and encourage private donations for the library, said Phil Leitner, a member of the library board of directors and the committee looking at setting up a foundation. County Ponders Cemetery Protection

Paul Stenshoel is urging Barnes County to help protect old cemeteries in rural areas. At a Tuesday Barnes County Commission meeting, Stenshoel said he wanted the county to take responsibility for protecting “abandoned” cemeteries from being plowed up. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.

Burglary Suspect in Custody

Paul Jacob Myles, the suspect in an early morning burglary at the Valley City AmericInn Monday, turned himself in Wednesday and is currently held in the Barnes County Correctional Facility.
Just after Midnight Wednesday, Myles, 26, of Valley City, turned himself in to the Valley City Police Department in response to a warrant issued Tuesday for his arrest.

Valley City Teachers and the Valley City School Board reached tentative agreement on a contract for 2013 Monday after eight months of impasse.The agreement will become final after both the school board and members of the Valley City Education Association ratify it. CAD Software Arriving Soon

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin expects Computer Information Systems Inc. of Skokie, Ill., to install new Computer Aided Dispatch software on dispatch, jail and law enforcement computers June 16 to 23. Tuesday McClaflin told commissioners CIS informed him it was “90 percent sure” the software would be installed during that week. “When I get the 100 percent email, I will let you know.” More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.

UPDATE: Burglary Suspect in Custody

Paul Jacob Myles, the suspect in an early morning burglary at the Valley City AmericInn Monday, is in custody.
