Winter Woes for Rural Water Customers

Rural water customers should protect against frozen water pipes, but with caution.
According to Perry Kapaun, manager of Barnes Rural water, with cold temps this winter and little insulation from snow, ground frost is deeper than usual meaning water pipes could freeze causing a litany of problems for homeowners.

Jefferson Counselor Recognized by National Organization

Jefferson Elementary School's guidance counselor Judi Hillier was recently recognized as a semi-finalist at the American School Counselor Association school counselor of the year program at a black tie gala in Washington, D.C.
Hillier, who's been a counselor at the Valley City Public School district for 33 years, received a certificate at Union Station in D.C. Friday, Jan. 31 among five finalists and 31 semi-finalists from across the country.

USDA Announces $3M For Pollinator Health

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service will provide close to $3 million in technical and financial assistance for interested farmers and ranchers to help improve the health of bees, which play an important role in crop production. North Dakota is the happiest state in the nation.
According to a Gallup-Healthways poll released last week, North Dakota ranked number one in well-being, up from number 12 in 2013, knocking Hawaii out of first place.

CCHD Renovation Costs High

Costs of renovating the former First Community Credit Union building to meet the City County Health Department's needs have doubled from the original estimate of $200,000, said Sharon Buhr, chair of the department's governing body. More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.

VCHS Holds Snow Week

Valley City High School's annual snow week began Monday. Students there have a variety of events planned for the week along with a basketball doubleheader Thursday. The public is encouraged to watch the game and attend coronation Thursday.

Ag Producers Recognized Friday at Social

The Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual Winter Agriculture Social Friday at the Valley City Eagles Club. A crowd of area ag producers were on hand to enjoy an appreciation dinner and to be honored for their efforts.

Spring Flooding Chances Low

VC Schools Raise $5K for Schonert Family

Students at Valley City Public School district raised a total of $5,060.36 for the Schnoert family, whose house was destroyed in a fire late last month.
John and Linda Schonert and their children Tucker and Ashton accepted the checks Friday afternoon at a kindness pep rally at Washington Elementary School.
