Snowmen in Town

November 12, 2013

Many snow men and women are decorated, dressed and ready to call Valley City businesses home through the Christmas season. The community has a chance to see them just by visiting each participating establishment.

Larry, the T-R Tour Guide, who is one of 21 snowmen in the area, greets customers as they walk through the doors of the Times-Record. He encourages readers to send their vacation photos for the Times-Record's "Out and About with the T-R" promotion.

UPDATE: Pair Suspected in Church Burglary Arrested in Hillsboro

November 11, 2013

Andrew Miklas, 25,of Valley City, and Nicole Lindermann, 18, of Kathryn, were arrested Friday in Hillsboro, N.D., on charges of possession of stolen property after police found the pair at a local motel with a stolen truck.
Miklas was wanted in Valley City in connection to a burglary at Faith Lutheran Church in early October. Lindermann also faces charges in the church burglary.

Expert To Explain CAD To Barnes County Commissioners

Linda Burke of Computer Information Systems Inc. will be visiting Barnes County Dec. 3 to explain the benefits and advantages of a Computer Enhanced Dispatch System, said Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

Area Veterans, Service Men and Women Recognized at Washington School Program

Many area veterans along with current service men and women were recognized Thursday afternoon at a program at Washington Elementary School. During the presentation, students and other speakers spoke of the importance of veterans and honoring them, while each vet present was recognized for his or her service.

Where Are They Now? Leitner: Politics Is in His Blood

Phil Leitner knew in high school he wanted to be in politics, and 15 years after graduation that hasn't changed.
Since graduating from Valley City High School in 1999, Leitner became a Barnes County Commissioner at 29 and doesn't plan to stop there.

BC OKs Job Description

Barnes County commissioners voted 5-0 at a Tuesday meeting to approve the job description for a new communications supervisor, proposed by Emergency Management Director Kimberly Franklin. More in Friday's issue of the Times-Record.

VCPD Swears in New Officer

November 8, 2013

Andrew Eisenschenk was sworn in Monday by Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven as the Valley City Police Department's newest officer.
Eiscnschenk, a native of St. Cloud, Minn, who joined the VCPD on Nov. 1, was formerly a police officer in Newtown, N.D.

Donations, Volunteers Needed for Community Christmas Eve Dinner

The annual community Christmas Eve dinner, held Tuesday, Dec. 24 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church dining hall, isn't just for members of the church — it's open to all who would like a traditional holiday feast of ham, turkey and side dishes, and company on Christmas Eve. Volunteers and funds are needed to keep the ritual going for its 42nd year.

Head Lice in VC School

Between 15 and 20 students at Valley City's Jefferson Elementary School were found to have head lice in checks Wednesday and Thursday by City-County Health nurses and volunteers, said Principal Troy Miller.

Rollover Injures Wimbledon Woman

November 7, 2013

A woman was injured in a rollover on a gravel road two miles southeast of Wimbledon Wednesday.
Darian Krueger, 19, of Wimbledon, suffered non-life-threatening injuries after the vehicle she was a passenger in rolled at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a press release. She was not wearing a seatbelt.
