Pizza Corner Hero Gets Award

December 23, 2013

A Pizza Corner employee who saved a woman's life in October was recently given the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce's monthly customer service award.
David McDonald said he's felt support and welcoming from the community ever since an article appeared in the Times-Record about McDonald's heroic act when he saved an elderly woman from choking at the restaurant the evening of Oct. 23.

BC OKs Seeking Grant

Barnes County Commissioners have authorized Southeastern District Clerk of Court Wanda Auka apply for a court facility grant from the North Dakota court system to create a permanent jury room, covering 75 percent of the estimated $32,500 total cost. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

V-500 Names Pedersen Top Volunteer

December 20, 2013

Dean Pedersen was named V-500 Volunteer of the Year at the group's annual recognition dinner Saturday, said Alison Kasowki, Valley City State University's Assistant Director of Annual Giving.
Kasowski also said the V-500 group met its 2013 -2014 fundraising goal.

BCN Students Volunteer for Christmas

December 20, 2013

Students in John Samuelson's sixth-grade class at the Barnes North School district didn't have a typical Christmas party. Instead of staying in and exchanging gifts, Thursday they traveled to Valley City where they rang bells for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle drive, helped count Wednesday's kettle money, and shoveled sidewalks for others.

FCCU Member Wins Trip to Chicago

December 20, 2013

First Community Credit Union member Briana Mindt, of Valley City, just returned from Chicago after winning a place at the starting line for the Credit Union Magic Minute contest. Mindt joined nine other sweepstakes winners from credit unions across the country to participate in a shopping spree, where she and fiance Nathan Klebe collected more than $8,000 in merchandise.
