New Equipment for VCFD

Valley City Fire Department Chief Gary Retterath and Ken Astrup, General Manager of Dakota Plains in Valley City, display one of the four struts recently purchased by the fire department.
A $2,000 contribution from Dakota Plains and a matching contribution from Land O Lakes assisted the VCFD with the purchase.

Sign of Change

A new Chinese restaurant in Valley City is a step closer to opening with the addition of a sign bearing the restaurant's name: Kirin House.
The restaurant could be open as early as next month, according to manager Allen Chen, who is currently working with contractors on finishing touches on the old Pizza Hut building on Main Street, Valley City.

McDonald's Coming to Valley City

A McDonald's restaurant is set to open this year behind the Wagon Wheel Inn at the site of the old recreational vehicle park. Greg Burchill, who previously owned the land before selling it to a company that will lease it to McDonald's, said construction is set to begin this spring with a 90-day construction schedule.
More details will be released in March.

I-94 Closed from Bismarck to Jamestown

The North Dakota Department of Transportation along with the North Dakota Highway Patrol have CLOSED I-94 from Bismarck to Jamestown due to high winds causing areas of zero visibility and hazardous travel conditions. Motorists who drive past a road closure device may be fined up to $250.

BC Dispatcher: VC Residents Getting Plenty

Man Your Shovels; Mother Nature Strikes Again

Another blizzard is predicted for the area Thursday with one-to-two inches of snow and wind gusts of up to 65 miles-per-hour predicted for Valley City and the surrounding areas.

According to Jennifer Ritterling, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the blizzard is part of a fairly potent system moving in from Saskatchewan with warm temperatures in the lead and cold following.

Winter Show Women Hosting Junk Boutique

North Dakota Winter Show Women's Division plans to have a new event this year to replace the annual craft show. Mary Ann Berntson, of the women's division, said the new "junk boutique and more" will still have crafts but will mainly consist of booths filled with repurposed, restored and restyled home furnishings, yard decor and custom creations.

The show will be held at the National Guard Armory during Winter Show week Saturday, March 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Steve Welken Memorial Scholarship Created

Erin, Reanna and Kaelyn Welken, of Valley City, have established a Steve Welken Memorial Scholarship at Valley City State University. The endowment will provide scholarships for full-time students in their junior or senior year, with majors in business, education or STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), said Alison Kasowski, assistant director of annual giving at VCSU.
