Cold Remaining at Least 1 Week

Valley City's 2 or so inches of snow over the past few days will likely stick around another week, as below average temperatures for this time of year remain, said Mark Ewens, a meteorologist technician with the Grand Forks office of the National Weather Service. Throwback Thursday: Snowy Little Dam

The Valley City Times-Record plans to run a historical photograph each week on Thursdays submitted by our readers.

Judy Stahl of Valley City brought in this photograph showing Valley City's snow-covered Little Dam on the Sheyenne River looked during the winter of 1960.

The Times-Record encourages residents of Barnes County and Valley City to submit photographs of personal and community events and activities that happened during their memories.

Submitted photographs will be returned after publication on request.

VCSU Hauling Old Science Rubble

Community Thanksgiving Worship at Epworth

Hot Air Balloon Crashes Near VC: Uninjured Pilot Flying Over All 50 States

A hot air balloon had a hard landing south of Interstate 94 near the Peak exit (296), a few miles east of Valley City, last Thursday. According to Valley City resident Jennifer Pickard who watched the balloon descend as she followed to offer assistance if necessary, the pilot is in the process of flying over each of the 50 states and got caught up in a North Dakota wind. He chose to fly over North Dakota after harvest just in case he ended up in a field. Nobody was injured during the hard landing.

Stoudt-Ross Grand Opening

Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce ambassadors welcomed Stoudt-Ross Ford to its new location at 325 Wintershow Road Monday at its grand opening.
The nearly 25,000-square-foot building opened in October.

DeMasi Brothers Returning to Folk

Governor Appoints Jim Verwey Secretary of ACOVA

Governor Jack Dalrymple re-appointed Jim Verwey of Valley City as Secretary of the Administrative Committee on Veterans Affairs (ACOVA). Verwey is a Vietnam War Veteran who retired as a Command Sergeant Major after serving over 36 years in the military to include the North Dakota National Guard.

Verwey holds a Masters of Education and taught first grade and junior high special education, he served as Special Education Coordinator for nine districts and Special Education Director for seven districts around Valley City.

Moving Forward: Valley City Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center

The Valley City Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center isn't a done deal yet, but last week's approval of an advisory measure granting public approval of the project gave planners a green light to move forward with plans for the endeavor. The next steps will be for the Valley City City Commission to approve the city's share of funding, then planners can get down to raising the remaining $4 to 5 million still needed for the project. If all goes according to plan, Valley City could have a wellness center by late summer or fall of 2016.
