The North Dakota Winter Show is hosting a new event this year, where the community has the chance to take the stage. A karaoke contest will be held Thursday, March 6 beginning at 6 p.m. in the main arena of the NDWS building. The contest is open to all ages, but those under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian consent. There will be prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250.

The Valley City Fish Hatchery is seeking young men and women aged 15 through 18 to participate in the 2014 Region 6 Youth Conservation Corps Program. More in Monday's Times-Record.
Potential new members of Valley City's Masonic Lodge No. 7 were invited to a special â€śRush Nightâ€ť at the lodge at 214 3rd St SE. About 20 people attended the special night which included an evening meal and a program about the organization along with a tour of the Valley City Lodge. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.
Valley City's Masonic Lodge No. 7 is hosting its first President's Day breakfast from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday at the lodge, located at 214 Third Street SE.
Bouquets of red, purple and pink flowers fill the Dakota Rose Floral building as the business has been preparing for Valentine's Day. The Feb. 14 holiday is one of the biggest to send flowers. Although the rose, Valentine's Day's traditional flower signifying romantic love, is the most popular on this holiday, the popularity of sending other types of flowers to loved ones is blooming.

When Harley McLain operated an organic lawn care company called Love Your Lawn, his business card read "Love Your Lawn, or Kiss My Grass."
Harley was like that, according to his adult children Molly, Mira, and Matt. He used humor in every part of his life.

The Jamestown Police Department is asking for assistance in their search for Ruby Grenz, 78, who disappeared Wednesday afternoon. She may be in a 2005 Dodge Caravan with N.D. license plates number HNW 560.
Ruby was last seen leaving a Jamestown beauty salon at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. Ruby is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 138 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a rust-colored fleece Columbia jacket, red sweater and brown pants.
Barnes County ON THE MOVE is partnering with the Barnes County Extension Service to bring three new classes focusing on food, health and exercise to the community.
Susan Milender, Extension agent, dietitian and fitness expert, will be presenting the classes in the Valley City Public Schools Central Administration Building at 460 Central Avenue North in Valley City.

The North Dakota Safety Council has scheduled a driver safety course 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. March 4 in Valley City to help increase roadway safety in the region. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.
Valley City emergency response and other officials will be meeting with a Canadian Pacific Railway official this morning seeking reassurances about safety of trains hauling crude oil in Barnes County.
