VCBC Library Being Painted

Detail work of the Valley City Barnes County Public Library is being painted to as closely as possible match the color scheme of the building when it was opened to the public in 1903.

BC Housing Gets Federal Grant

The Barnes County Housing Authority was recently named one of 15 North Dakota housing authorities to receive a share of $1.4 million in federal funding to operate and maintain public housing. The Barnes County Housing Authority will receive over $23,500.

Ford Gets Business of Year Award ; Sayler Gets Hi-Line Award

Stoudt-Ross Ford was named the Business of the Year at the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce and Valley City-Barnes County Development Corp. combined annual banquet Tuesday, April 28 at Woodland Steakhouse. Doreen Sayler received the Hi-Line Award, and several more businesses and individuals were awarded.

VCHS Holds 'A Year in Our Lives' Prom

May 4, 2015

Valley City High School hosted "A Year in Our Lives" prom this Saturday. The "green prom" aimed to celebrate the seasons and preserve the environment. Much of the decor was recycled and reused. Prom Director Carol Foth said students also made decorations like chandeliers from plastic bottles.

The idea came about in an effort to use up some prom supplies that have gathered and been stored over the years.

May is Stroke Awareness Month

Governor Jack Dalrymple has officially proclaimed May 2015 as Stroke Awareness Month in North Dakota. In recognition of this important observance, the North Dakota department of Health is working to raise awareness about the importance of stroke prevention, early recognition of signs and symptoms of stroke, and the need to act fast at the first sign of a stroke.

VCSU Sets Earth Day Celebration

Valley City State University will host its fourth annual Earth Day Festival on Wednesday, May 6, beginning at 5 p.m. on the campus green north of McFarland Hall and west of Rhoades Science Center.

CORRECTION: Tod Rohde Benefit Scheduled for Monday at Valley City VFW

A benefit supper for Valley City resident Tod Rohde will be held Monday, May 4 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Valley City VFW.

Tod, a long-time employee of Enterprise Sales, collapsed on March 9 and has been hospitalized since. At first, doctors thought he was suffering from pancreatitis, because he had in the past, but later determined it was something else, though it's unknown what is causing his illness.

Coast Guard Cutter Namesake Homesteaded in Tower City

May 1, 2015

The U.S. Coast Guard's newest Fast Response Cutter, the Isaac Mayo, which was recently commissioned in Key West, Fla., has a Barnes County tie. The ship's namesake, an east coast whaler skipper, went on to homestead a farm near Tower City.
