The Canadian Pacific Railway is seeking permission from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to to extend its Eagle Siding located southeast of Cuba, Barnes County.

Developer Looking to Build Apartment Complex in VC

A private developer is looking to build a 40-unit apartment complex in Valley City pending the North Dakota legislature approval of funds for a housing incentive, said Jennifer Fiest, director of development for the Valley City-Barnes County Development Corp.

Fiest said if lawmakers approve funding, SW Design Build, Inc. which has offices in St. Joseph, Minn. and Luverne, Minn., will submit an application for housing incentive funds to build a complex on Winter Show Road.

BCWD Getting Loans, Grants for Expansion

The Barnes Rural Water District is getting a combination of grants and loans to help finance an expansion of its water services to include 214 customers in the Kathryn and surrounding area, said BRWD district director Perry Kapaun on Friday.

VC Kindergartners Tour Hospital

Valley City kindergartners were treated to a tour of CHI Mercy Health Friday. Each of the youngsters visited respiratory therapy, physical therapy, dietary, the pharmacy, the emergency room, the lab and x-ray departments.

Ribbon Cutting at Smith Lumber

Tim and Brenda Durheim, owners of Smith Lumber in Valley City, share smiles with Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors after cutting the ribbon to dedicate their new business location at 1525 West Main Street Friday morning. The ribbon cutting was part of the store's grand opening, which also featured in-store specials, product demonstrations and a cook out.

BREAKING:Accident Near VC Kills Litchville Man

April 25, 2015

A Litchville man was killed Saturday in an accident on Highway 1 two miles southwest of Valley City.

While northbound on HIghway 1 at about 10:30 a.m., a 63-year-old Litchville man driving a Silverado pickup suffered an abrupt severe medical condition that caused him to lose control of the vehicle, according to a media release from Sgt. Tom Herzig of the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The vehicle drifted into the east ditch and continued for a few hundred yards before striking a rock pile at the edge of a field.
