O'Reilly to Have Grand Opening

October 10, 2014

O'Reilly Auto Parts will celebrate its grand opening in Valley City beginning next week.

The grand opening celebration, that runs from Wednesday, Oct. 15 to Tuesday, Oct. 28, will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Oct. 15 at the store located at 1411 West Main Street.

Barnes County Relay For Life Seeking Volunteers

The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers in Barnes County – community leaders, cancer survivors, caregivers, anyone wanting to make a difference – to join the Barnes County Relay For Life. The organization is seeking volunteers who are interested in getting involved in the fight against cancer through fundraising in their signature fundraising event, the Relay For Life. BCN School in Soft Lockdown Following Possible Shooting Near Kensal

Barnes County North School in Leal is in a soft lockdown following a possible shooting that occurred near Kensal, N.D. earlier today. Principal Joan Klein said the school district is keeping everyone contained in the building until 3:30 p.m.

Kensal is about 35 miles from the school in Leal and is about 22 miles from Wimbledon, a northwestern Barnes County town in the BCN school district.

Wanted: Cortez Bogans

Each week, local law enforcement asks for help from the community in locating individuals who have warrants out for their arrest.

Cortez R Bogans is wanted on a criminal judgment for failure to pay fines and fees for original charge of making false reports to law enforcement or other security officials, a class-A misdemeanor; simple assault, a class-B misdemeanor; and possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, a class-B misdemeanor.

Bogans, 23, is a black male with black hair and brown eyes. He is six feet tall and weighs 215 pounds.

Throwback Thursday: 1957 National Guard Recruits

The Valley City Times-Record plans to run a historical photograph each week on Thursdays submitted by our readers.

Allen Boumont of Valley City submitted this photograph to the Times-Record of 1957 recruits to the and Headquarters Service Company, 141st Engineer Combat Battalion the Valley City National Guard.

Photos can be of events or places in Barnes County from 10, 20, 30 years ago, or even older. We will publish at least one submitted photograph every week in the Valley City Times-Record.

VC Students Walk to School

Valley City elementary students joined others from around the world who walked to school Wednesday. The students walked on International Walk to School Day, which raises awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. Mercy Doing Mammograms

October is breast cancer awareness month, and Valley City's CHI Mercy Health wants to make certain women know that mammograms are very important, especially for women over 40, and are available in Valley City at Mercy. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.

VCSU to Host Family Weekend

Valley City State University will hold a Viking Parent and Family Weekend Oct. 10 to 12, with about 100 VCSU students, parents and siblings scheduled to take part in activities planned to make families part of the VCSU family. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.
