VCHS Student Performs on Grand Ole Opry Stage

January 21, 2015

Sarah Schauer was one of two students recognized for her achievements at the Valley City Public School Board regular meeting Monday.

Schauer, a choral student, recently auditioned in Nashville for the National Association for Music Educators choir. There she got to sing on the Grand Ole Opry Stage.

Kiefert Bill Allows Guns in Schools

VCSU Fisheries Club Hosting Gumbo Feed

A new club at Valley City State University is hosting a gumbo feed fundraiser in February.

The VCSU American Fisheries Society Student Subunit, which became official this past fall, is hosting its second gumbo feed Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the Valley City VFW from 5-7:30 p.m.

Boulder Marks BC Cemetery

An engraved granite boulder lists the names of several people buried at an unmarked cemetery in Barnes County's Hobart Township, along with when they passed away.

Paul Stenshoel, a Barnes County resident, recently provided a copy of a Nov. 15, 1981, issue of the Valley City Times-Record, which included a story about a pink granite boulder memorial engraved with the names of individuals buried near the spot in the 1890s.

Legislators Discuss the Issues at Forum

Crash Litters I-94 with Pizzas

January 19, 2015

An early morning accident Monday left I-94 near Buffalo littered with frozen pizzas.

At about 6:40 a.m. Monday, James McEwen, 46, of Fargo, was driving a straight truck loaded with frozen pizzas from Valley City to Fargo. McEwen lost control of the truck causing it to tip onto its passenger side into the south ditch, according to a media release from Sgt. Adam Dvorak of the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The truck box was compromised during the crash, causing pizza to spill out into the ditch.
