BC Highway Construction Schedule

Four leftover road construction projects from 2013 should be completed within the next couple of weeks, after which Barnes County will begin work on spring projects planned for 2014, said Kerry Johnson, Barnes County Highway Superintendent. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.

Klingenstein Accepts New Position

Beth Gigante Klingenstein recently accepted the position of Executive Director of the North Dakota Council on the Arts (NDCA). Each state has an arts council that is responsible for arts related grants, arts advocacy, folk art, and arts education programs within the state. As the director of the NDCA, Klingenstein will work with artists within the state as well as state, regional, and national arts organizations.

George Sinner, U.S. House Candidate, to Visit VC

George Sinner, North Dakota State Senator and candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, will visit Valley City Friday morning for coffee and conversation.

Sinner, Democratic State Senator who represents District 46, will be at Vicky's Viking Room from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday. The public is welcome to attend the "Sit Down with Sinner" event, in which Sinner hear what Barnes County residents are concerned about.

Members of the Valley City Fire Department attended training on tanker disasters last week in order to learn what to do in the case of a train derailment or truck-tanker accident in or near the city.

$17K Raised at Jefferson Field Day

Jefferson Elementary School students raised over $17,000 for the parent teacher organization during this year's Minion Madness field day, held Friday, April 23. Money raised will help update and provide new playground equipment for the school and go into the PTO's general fund, used to pay for various equipment, events and programs for students throughout the year.

VC McDonalds Delayed, not Abandoned

Developers still plan to build a McDonalds in Valley City, though some red tape from the state slowed construction.

According to Dave Andersen, Valley City Building Inspector, developers are in the process of obtaining permits for the new restaurant, which is planned off Winter Show Road behind the Wagon Wheel Inn near KLJ. Before a building permit can be issued, the state of North Dakota needs to approve plans for storm water waste disposal.

According to Andersen, this permit was delayed, but a request was made to expedite the process. The plan should be approved soon.
