Faith Lutheran: First Steps to New Building

Faith Lutheran Church will rebuild after fire destroyed its Valley City home in October. The congregation has taken some of the first steps toward that end by starting the process of hiring an architect to start planning a new structure.

The congregation plans to rebuild on its current site and salvage what it can of the former building, said Tory Hart. While the building was virtually destroyed, some of the oldest stained-glass windows were salvageable, said Hart, and some of the old fellowship hall my be salvaged, if only the footings.

BCMAA Plans Air Show Publicity

The Barnes County Airport Municipal Airport Authority plans to have an entry in the 2014 Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce Chili Cook-off and place an advertisement in the 2014 Explore the Sheyenne Magazine to help publicize its planned 2014 airshow set for Sept. 6. Relay for Life Campaign Begins, Looking for Teams

Barnes County Relay for Life organizers are gearing up for this year's event, looking for teams and asking the public to donate on Giving Hearts Day. Money donated by the community to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life on Giving Hearts Day, a 24-hour online give-a-thon hosted by Dakota Medical Foundation and Impact Foundation, will benefit the Barnes County Relay. Diane Sommerfeld, who does publicity for this year's Relay, said donations are taken online.

Bullwinkle or Natasha?

Moose in Valley City are not unheard of, but due to the declining population in southeast North Dakota they're not that common, either. But the moose wandering through yards and corn fields in and around Wolski Plaza over the weekend seemed unimpressed with statistical data.

Simmental Bull Sale Opens Feb. 8

The Dakota Power Bull Sale returns to the North Dakota Winter Show building for the 10th time for three days Feb. 8 through Feb. 10, said Patrick J. Thorson, owner of Black Tie Simmentals of Kindred.
The auction sale will take place at the conclusion of the three-day event at 1 p.m. Feb. 10. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

Viking Room Extends Hours

Vicky's Viking Room restaurant has been owned by Vicky and Terry Jones since early 2011, and on Jan. 21 expanded its weekday hours to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. as it added dinner to the menu, said Terry Jones.
Terry said Saturday hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the restaurant is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. More in Friday's issue of the Times-Record.
