BREAKING: VC Burglary Suspect Arrested

A 19-year-old Valley City man is charged with a burglary that took place early Tuesday morning. 

The burglary occurred at a home at 510 Seventh Avenue Southeast in Valley City. Items reported missing from the residence were a Dell laptop computer with a power cable, a camera case and a Remington .222 caliber bolt action rifle with a scope. 

A fresh set of footprints in the snow led police to 599 Sixth Street Southeast, Valley City where all of the stolen property was located and the suspect was taken into custody.

Proceeds from City Lights Sales Tuesday Benefit ND Special Olympics

City Lights Supper Club and Your Neighborhood Pub is one of 10 restaurants throughout the state teaming up again this year with the North Dakota Special Olympics to support its athletes and help two of them attend the World Games.

Fifteen percent of sales made at the restaurant Tuesday, Feb. 17 will benefit the North Dakota Special Olympics. City Lights is open from 4 to 10 p.m.

NDWS Hosts PRCA Rodeo

Get out your cowboy boots and hats, it's PRCA rodeo time at the North Dakota Winter Show.

Rodeo has been a winter show tradition since 1963. This year's event will be held on March 7 at 2 and 7 p.m. and March 8 at 2 p.m. with entertainment to suit every taste, from bull riding by professional cowboys on stock provided by Sutton Rodeo in Onida, S.D., to girls on horseback in the barrel racing events and trick roping by world champion roper Rider Kiesner.

Art Camp for Military Families in VC

The NDSU extension service, Barnes County 4-H, VCSU Art Department, and VCSU Community School of the Arts sponsored a free, art day-camp for children 8-12 yrs old in military families at Jefferson School on the afternoons of Feb. 3, 5, 10, and 12.

Adult Prom

"Love Is in the Air" was the theme of the second annual adult prom at the Valley City Eagles Club Friday. Dozens of folks donned their fancy dresses and formalwear to dance the night away to the country band Boomtown before posing for photos and participating in a grand march.

Eagles Manager Rich Hass said more than 50 couples attended the prom, double last year's amount.

Deb Kohler Wins Bank Forward Service Award

Deb Kohler of Valley City's Bank Forward has been named a winner  of the bank's annual Bill Brown Award, Bank Forward’s highest honor for outstanding service.

Jefferson Debuts Master Reader Program

Jefferson Elementary School's Master Reader Program debuted Feb. 12 with nine community master readers. The goal of the Master Reader program is to bring civic leaders in to the classroom to read to students.

The goal is that by doing this students will notice that reading is a life long skill.

The readers spent approximately 30 minutes interacting with and reading to students in kindergarten through third grade.
