Cookies for Local Cops

After reading a story in the Valley City Times-Record about Cookies for Cops, a campaign to show police appreciation by baking cookies for them, Cassie Colwell and Jessica Stack, both Open Door Center residents in Valley City, decided to show their appreciation to the Valley City Police Department with a gift of sweets. With help from Open Door staff, Jessica, who loves to cook, baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies and Cassie made a card for officers.

CCHD Picks Strategies

Members of the City County Health District have chosen several strategies in dealing with student and adult binge drinking. The CCHD has been awarded a $170,000 annual grant from the state of North Dakota to help fight adult binge and student drinking. More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.

Illa Glandt, a long-time volunteer at CHI Mercy Health, who recently resigned as gift shop manager, has been named the 2014 Mercy Healthcare Auxilian of the year, said Diane Heuser. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

Flu Hits County, City

December 29, 2014

Influenza has hit Barnes County.

According to the North Dakota Department of Health, as of Friday, Barnes County had 32 confirmed cases of seasonal flu, with nearly 900 cases reported throughout North Dakota. Statistics do not include those with symptoms who do not visit a doctor.

“For the third season in a row, influenza activity is starting earlier than is typical,” said Jill Baber, influenza surveillance coordinator for NDDoH.

A Festival of Giving

November 29 was a night of laughter, furious bidding, beautifully decorated Christmas trees, and remarkable generosity. This year's Festival of Trees was a full house at the Eagle's Club in Valley City. The Festival is an annual fundraiser hosted by CHI Mercy Health Foundation, raising money for the hospital.

This year, the Foundation was raising money for the Physical Therapy Department and new equipment. The Foundation raised $17,000 this year for our Physical Therapy Department. which is well on the way to the $24,000 needed to purchase the four pieces of equipment.
