A new series of Make and Take session classes being offered to Barnes County 4-H members are proving extremely popular, said Susan Milender, Barnes County Extension agent and coordinator of Barnes County 4-H. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.
Valley City Congregational United Church of Christ members, Sunday School and Confirmation students collected hats, mittens, gloves and scarves to donate to the Valley City Mitten Tree. Valley City's Nazarene Church will depict the life of Jesus Christ during its 10th annual Journey Through Christmas, a drive-though Christmas presentation on Riverview Drive and Hanna Avenue presented in six scenes with over 30 characters and several animals. More in Tuesday's Times-Record.
BEK Communications is working on connecting residential and businesses inside and outside of Valley City, but it might take a few months before all customers are connected, said Tom Steinolfson, chief operations officer for BEK. More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.
Tracy, a German shepherd, was lost Sunday after her owner was injured in a serious accident on I-94 about eight miles west of Valley City near Sanborn. She was spotted by a farm family south of the interstate, but they were unable to catch her. Tracy is a shy, but gentle dog and is micro-chipped for identification. Motorists or residents who find a German shepherd should call Herzig at (701) 659-0482 or contact the Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals at (701) 840-5047.
Barnes County Commissioners will ask Barnes County States Attorney Carl Martineck for a legal definition of a complete residential address to help clear up confusion about new voting identification requirements. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.
Fire destroyed a shop on the property of John and Tammy Sadek in rural Valley City near Lake Ashtabula Thursday.
According to Valley City Rural Fire Department Chief Gary Retterath, the fire was reported at about 8 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters arrived to find the building smoldering with fire in the walls and ceiling. Crews were on scene until after 2 a.m.
The building and its contents, including a vehicle and tools stored in a room inside the building were destroyed, according to Retterath, who said the fire likely began in a heater in a corner of the shop.
