VC Students Walk to School

October 9, 2014

Valley City elementary students joined others from around the world who walked to school Wednesday. The students walked on International Walk to School Day, which raises awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. Mercy Doing Mammograms

October is breast cancer awareness month, and Valley City's CHI Mercy Health wants to make certain women know that mammograms are very important, especially for women over 40, and are available in Valley City at Mercy. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.

VCSU to Host Family Weekend

Valley City State University will hold a Viking Parent and Family Weekend Oct. 10 to 12, with about 100 VCSU students, parents and siblings scheduled to take part in activities planned to make families part of the VCSU family. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.

Fashion Show to Benefit Dance Team

A fashion show and silent auction will be held at Sabir's later this month to benefit the Valley City Hi Lites dance team.

Dancers, college students and others from the community will model clothing from the clothing boutique in Central Hair Studio on Thursday, Oct. 23. More in Tuesday's Times-Record.

Students, teachers, and parents are invited to promote conservation education in their schools and community by encouraging youth to take an active part in the junior duck stamp program, said Jackie Jacobson, visitor services manager of the Audubon National Wildlife Refuge in Coleharbor, N.D. Sex Offender Working in Valley City

Registered sex offender Russell Wayne Stephens is now working at 101, Central Avenue, Valley City.

Stephens is considered a high-risk offender with a lifetime registration. In 2003, he was convicted of having oral sex and intercourse with a 10-year-old girl. Stephens claims to have no recollection of the offense.
Stephens, 51, is a white male with gray hair and brown eyes. He is six feet, three inches tall and weighs 240 pounds.
