Chamber Announces Top Winners

December 16, 2014

Both the grand prize winner and winner of the 2014 Snowman Decorating contest were announced Monday by the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce.

Weekly Christmas in the Valley button contest winners were also announced.
Winner of the grand prize – a Surface Pro 2 Tablet, donated in part by Hi-Line Technology, was Gary Peterson.

Dacotah Bank was selected as the Snowman Decorating winner.

VC Bird Count Thursday

Valley City's U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Valley City Wetland Management District office is looking for Valley City and Barnes County residents to participate in a Christmas Bird Count Thursday, Dec. 18, said Terry Gwilliams, range technician.More in Tuesday's issue of the Times-Record.

Fundraiser Planned for Wellness Center

A Pledge-A-Thon is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Valley City Parks And Recreation Center in an effort to raise up to $4 million for the Valley City Wellness, Health and Physical Education Center.

According to Andrea Nelson of the Sheyenne Valley Foundation, those interested in making a tax-deductible donation toward the center can either stop in or call in pledges to (701) 845-3294.

Steakhouse Now Open in VC

Woodland Steakhouse Bar and Grill, owned by Dianne and Wade Hatcher, is now open for business, Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. It is closed Sundays.

The restaurant, located at 3475 Woodland Park in Valley City, serves steaks, burgers and a sandwich and supper menu to compliment the steaks, Dianne said.

She said a grand opening is tentatively scheduled for January.

Right now, diners have the chance to vote on a name for a buffalo head that will sit above a fireplace on the main floor. The name choices are Sheyenne and Dakota Woodland. Voting ends Dec. 23.

First-graders Raise Over $300 for Salvation Army

Jefferson Elementary School first-graders rang the bell for the Barnes County Salvation Army for their service project. The project raised $328.76 for the organization.

A new mental health counselor has been added to Creative Therapy, which opened in Valley City this year. Mary Burchill (Weshnevski) joins owner and mental health counselor Jennifer Eberle in offering mental health services to residents in the area — a significant need health officials say.
