VC Senior to Compete in Miss ND Teen USA

Valley City senior Jordyn Sayler will compete in the Miss North Dakota Teen USA competition this weekend. The Miss North Dakota USA competition will be held in conjunction.

Sayler, daughter of Nathan and Marsha Sayler, said the preliminary round, in which competitors interview with judges, is Saturday, and the final show will be Sunday, Nov. 23 at North Dakota State University's Festival Concert Hall at 4 p.m.

Throwback Thursday: Deactivation of Guard 141st Engineer Combat Battalion

The Valley City Times-Record plans to run a historical photograph each week on Thursdays submitted by our readers.

Gerry Gerntholz of Valley City brought in this photograph taken during the 2008 program marking the deactivation of Valley City's National Guard 141st Engineer Combat Battalion. The battalion was started in 1955.

The Times-Record encourages residents of Barnes County and Valley City to submit photographs of personal and community events and activities that happened during their memories.

Submitted photographs will be returned after publication on request.

VC Employees Get Raises all Around

Valley City's employees were granted raises during a regular meeting of the Valley City City Commission Tuesday after a study revealed that Valley City employees, on average, earned 20 percent less than their counterparts in other cities.

VCSU Alumni Captures Northern Lights Over Hi-Line Bridge

Valley City State University alumni Duke Johnson captured this photo of the Northern Lights over the Hi-Line Bridge Saturday.

Duke told Alice Beauchman, photography instructor at VCSU, that while visiting family Saturday, he went out to take a star trail photo of the Big Dipper ducking down below the Hi-Line Bridge.

Koppelman Announces Retirement Plans

November 19, 2014

Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Dean Koppelman announced plans to retire after next school year at Monday's regular school board meeting.

Koppelman said he told board members that he'd let them know retirement plans at the end of his three-year contract, which ends this school year.
