ON THE MOVE Hosting Nutrition Classes

February 13, 2014

Barnes County ON THE MOVE is partnering with the Barnes County Extension Service to bring three new classes focusing on food, health and exercise to the community.
Susan Milender, Extension agent, dietitian and fitness expert, will be presenting the classes in the Valley City Public Schools Central Administration Building at 460 Central Avenue North in Valley City.

Drivers Safety Course Set March 4

The North Dakota Safety Council has scheduled a driver safety course 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. March 4 in Valley City to help increase roadway safety in the region. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.

VC, CP Talking About Rail Safety

February 13, 2014

Valley City emergency response and other officials will be meeting with a Canadian Pacific Railway official this morning seeking reassurances about safety of trains hauling crude oil in Barnes County.
The meeting is scheduled to take place 10 a.m. Thursday at the Valley City Fire Department. More in Thursday's issue of the Times-Record.

VCHS Students Earn Honors

Two Valley City High School seniors were honored Monday by school officials for achievements that will send one to Washington, D.C. to participate in a program sponsored by the U.S. Senate, and could include a presidential honor for the other. Bethany Berntson was recognized Monday at a regular meeting of the Valley City Public School Board for her acceptance into the United States Senate Youth Program, and Saidee Oberlander was recognized for her nomination for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.

VCSU Sets Spring Semester Enrollment Records, Growth Trend Continues

Valley City State University has released its final student enrollment figures for Spring Semester 2014, and those figures indicate that VCSU has set records for both headcount and FTE (full-time equivalent), eclipsing all previous marks since the university switched to a semester system in 1992–93.

Ice Fest Proceeds Going For Fireworks

Any income left after costs from the Second Ashtabula Crossing Ice Fest will be donated to the Lake Ashtabula Fireworks Association for the annual July 4 fireworks display, said Patty Hoff of Ashtabula Crossing. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.

City Discusses Permanent Flood Control

Flooding and permanent flood control were on the minds of Valley City residents and city officials during a public meeting Thursday.
About 35 Valley City residents listened while city officials discussed the next phase of permanent flood protection and how the ongoing project would be financed.

NDWS Women's Luncheon Set for March 6

February 11, 2014

North Dakota Winter Show Women's Division luncheon is set for Thursday, March 6 at 12:30 p.m. at the Valley City Eagles Club, said Mary Ann Bertnston. Tickets for the annual luncheon cost $17, and are available at Valley Drug, Nu Cara Pharmacy (formerly Foss Drug), Central Avenue HealthMart Pharmacy, Quilted Ceiling and from Winter Show members. The entertainment for the luncheon is pop music singer Robby Vee.
