BC Deputies Involved in High-Speed Chase

June 30, 2013

A high-speed chase that started in Cass County by the Fargo Police Department ended up in Barnes County Friday night.
According to Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin, the suspect was involved in a domestic dispute Friday night and busted out the windows of a North Fargo Stamart and at First National Pawn.
The suspect then allegedly got behind a Fargo Police Department vehicle and pushed it. The suspect also allegedly nearly hit a Fargo police officer. On Saturday morning, during a run or die run at the West Fargo Fairgrounds, he again nearly hit a Cass County Deputy.

Contractor Task Force Visited Minot

June 28, 2013

A multi-agency state Contractor Compliance Task Force was in Minot Thursday, doing random compliance checks at various construction sites in the area.
David Andersen, Valley City fire and building inspector, said Thursday the task force is needed in western North Dakota because of an incredible amount of construction work in the western part of the state due to the oil patch and economic growth.

BC Missing Addiction Counselor

June 28, 2013

Barnes County has been without a licensed chemical addiction counselor since Delaine Anderson and her Valley City-based Positive Solutions Counseling left town.
Doctor Madeline Luke recently said if someone needs chemical addiction counseling they must travel to either Jamestown or Fargo, “which may be difficult for clients.”

Nutrition Class Starting in VC

June 28, 2013

A new fitness and nutrition class is set to begin in Valley City.
Four women who all share the same common goals and interests of a healthy lifestyle came together to form the class after Weight Watchers meetings were discontinued in Valley City.
Because they want a class in town to which people don't have to commute, they created a new support nutrition group called All About U at Beyond the Sun, a tanning and fitness center.

Barnes County Ranks High For Health

June 27, 2013

Barnes County ranked high among 53 North Dakota counties in the 2013 County Health Rankings and Roadmaps for 2013.
City County Health Director Theresa Will said, “We have been in the top 20 percent since they started (research) in 2010. (The high ranking) is not really surprising – it would have been surprising if we declined a lot.”

Gas Prices Fall in ND

June 27, 2013

North Dakota gasoline prices have fallen on ;average by 10 cents per gallon a week ago and 51 cents from the record high average of $4.24 per gallon set May 22, according to information from North Dakota American Automobile Association.
A sampling of Valley City gasoline prices Wednesday revealed super unleaded being sold at $3.62.9 and $3.69.9 per gallon, and regular unleaded at $3.70.9 and $3.77.9.

LaMoure County Theatre Invites the Neighbors

The LaMoure County Summer Musical Theatre will soon premiere its production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat in beautiful Memorial Park in Grand Rapids, and everyone is welcome. The musical is based on the Biblical story about Joseph and a multi-colored coat given to him by his father, Jacob. It includes a cast from Marion to Oaks and is family-friendly. Fireworks at Lake Ashtabula Set for July 5

The Lake Ashtabula Fireworks Association is planning another big show on the lake next Friday, and they're still taking donations to help pay for the ever-increasing cost of fireworks.
The fireworks association anticipates that boats will fill the water and people will line the shores Friday, July 5, at the Ashtabula Crossing at dusk while the sky lights up for the annual show.

Elsie Keys Retiring After 30 Years

June 26, 2013

Elsie Keys, 86, retires this week from the Valley City-Barnes County Public Library after 30 years.
Her final day will be Saturday. Fellow library worker Irma Ness said part of Keys' reason for retiring is because her daughter has a lake cabin, "and she likes to spend time at the lake."

After The Flood: It’s Cleanup Time

Safety is important when cleaning up messes left by heavy rainfall Thursday evening.
Once Barnes County and Valley City residents finish pumping out basements and other low areas, they must start cleanup operations. But before diving into the job, people should check to make sure their tetanus (Tdap) shots are current.
