Eight vehicle break-ins were reported to the Valley City Police Department on Tuesday and Wednesday. Police believe several more cases have gone unreported.
Valley City Police Chief Fred Thompson said on Monday and Tuesday nights, someone opened unlocked car doors and stole items that were easily available.

A Fargo man attempting to ice fish on Sanborn Lake 11:54 a.m. Tuesday fell through the ice into water up to his waist, and was so embarrassed he drove back home declining treatment, said Valley City Fire Chief Gary Retterath.
Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin said Wednesday, â€śhe went in the water up to his waist, got cold and declined treatment.â€ť
McClaflin said he could not understand why anybody would try to ice fish on the last day of April. â€śI hope he won't repeat and it is a lesson learned.â€ť
Valley City Public Schools superintendent Dean Koppelman announced in an email Tuesday the school district's plans if they have to make up a snow day.
The school board sent a request to the Department of Public Instruction and North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple's Office to waive having to makeup the missed day of school Monday, April 15. Koppelman said, "We may not have an answer to that request until the first part of next week."
