Valley City's Planned Legislative Forum Postponed

April 25, 2013

Saturday's planned legislative forum in Valley City has been postponed to an unspecified date due to the conference committee having work remaining, Sen. Larry Robinson said Wednesday.
Robinson said some issues important to Barnes County and Valley City must still be worked out before the end of the legislative session, including budgets for the North Dakota State Water Commission and the Valley City State University budget and others.

BC Schools Place At State

April 25, 2013

Students in the Maple Valley and Valley City School Districts placed in both the junior and senior high divisions of the State Science Olympiad at North Dakota State University Saturday.
In the junior high school division, the Maple Valley team came in seventh with 343 points and
Valley City junior high students Sarah Montecuollo and Madison Anderson were named champions in the food science category, while Anderson and Tabatha Branam were champions in the shock value category.

Washington Elementary Principal to Retire

April 25, 2013

The Valley City School Board met Tuesday, when they approved Washington Elementary principal Wayne Denault's letter of retirement. Board members also agreed to hire Jennifer Lambrecht as the new high school counselor.

Good-Bye Lead

April 25, 2013

Valley City is getting the lead out – of the Law Enforcement Center.
A lead removal team has gotten rid of about 40 percent of the lead in the building's basement which formerly housed a shooting range. While the city is unsure how the basement will be used in the future, it will likely never be a shooting range again.

Pilot Error in Plane Crash

April 25, 2013

The aviation accident that killed Robert Odegaard of Kindred while practicing over Valley City for the 2012 Wings and Wheels AirShow in September, was due to pilot error, the NTSB ruled. The crash happened at the Barnes County Municipal Airport.

VCSU Nurses Thank Mercy Hospital

On April 3, students from the Student Nurse Organization, Dakota Nursing Program, in Valley City, donated a temporal thermometer to the Medical-Surgical staff at Mercy Hospital, recognizing the help they have received from the hospital.

Proceeds from SNO fundraising activities this past school year have also gone towards defraying the medical costs of a local cancer survivor and participating in the Christmas Giving Tree sponsored by Dacotah Bank of Valley City.

Buyer Sought For Valley City Dinosaur

Valley City paleontologist Alan Komrosky Tuesday said he continues to seek a buyer for his triceratops.

Komrosky said he is working on a deal to sell the skeleton, but “but until they sign on the line you can't tell. I've been trying to get it done for eight years.”

Little League Fundraiser

April 24, 2013

The Valley City Little League will hold a fundraiser on Thursday, April 4 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Stoudt Ross Ford in Valley City.
The group will serve brats, chips, dessert and a drink. The minimum donation will be $5.
In the event of inclement weather, food will be served in the showroom.

LIFEPAK, BC Ambulance to the Rescue

When Valley City Resident Harvey Hochhalter had a heart attack earlier this month, a Barnes County ambulance was on hand within minutes and new technology on that ambulance may possibly have saved his life, or at the very least saved him from a lot of heart damage. Going Green

In an effort to raise awareness on environmental responsibility, Valley City State University hosted its second annual Earth Day Festival Monday evening at the Bubble.
The festivities, which last all week, are organized by the university and its environmental task force.
Originally scheduled at the Medicine Wheel Park, the event was moved to VCSU's Osmon Fieldhouse due to inclement weather.
