State's Attorney Likes New DUI Laws

Barnes County State's Attorney Lee Grossman said Monday he was pleased a new North Dakota law covering drunken driving includes tougher penalties for first offenses.
North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple signed legislation Monday aimed at strengthening penalties for drunken driving in North Dakota.

NDVMA Animal Hall of Fame Nominees Sought

North Dakota's Veterinary Medical Association is looking for nominees for its annual NDVMA Animal Hall of Fame Awards.
Nominees must reside in North Dakota and an official nomination form must be completed. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the NDVMA's website at www.ndvma.com or by contacting the NDVMA office at (701) 221-7740. A picture of the nominee, as well as a letter explaining why they should receive the award, must accompany the nomination form.

Awards and Kudos to the T-R

The Valley City Times-Record is officially an award-winning newspaper.
On Friday, the North Dakota Newspaper Association announced winners of the 2012 NDNA Better Newspaper Contest during its convention in Rapid City S.D. The T-R placed in a variety of areas including individual and staff awards in advertising, editorial and sports categories for daily newspapers with a circulation of less than 12,000. Newspapers in this circulation category also included the Jamestown Sun, the Dickinson Press, the Daily News in Wahpeton, the Devils Lake Journal and the Williston Herald.

Graduation Approaching

Area students will soon gather to celebrate another milestone and chapter in their lives as they receive their diplomas. Barnes County schools have graduation ceremonies throughout the month of May.
Valley City State University's graduation is scheduled for May 11, and local high schools will have their graduation ceremonies later this month.
