Flood Chance Decreases

Rich Schuneman, US Army Corps of Engineers Baldhill Dam Resource Manager, gave an updated flood forecast during a Friday morning flood meeting to the Valley City City Commission— and the news is looking good.
"The melt — you couldn't ask for it to go any better," he said.
Schuneman said there's a 95 percent chance of the Sheyenne River in Valley City reaching 12.9 feet, which is below flood stage. A previous forecast predicted a 50 percent chance of moderate flooding.

Sober Proms

A new tradition has taken hold at area proms in the last several years. It's not a dress style or a special dance; it's breathalyzer tests.
Last weekend, Litchville-Marion students were asked to blow into a tube before gaining entrance to their prom, and on May 3, Valley City High School students will be asked to do the same.
According to VCHS principal Kristi Brandt, the school, which owns two breathalyzer units, has given the test to young men and women before prom for several years.
