Utility Rates May Increase

During Monday's finance meeting, the Valley City City Commission discussed raising Public Works rates in April. Because some departments lost revenue in 2012 and the previous years, city officials decided to focus on raising rates for commercial garbage fees along with a slight raise in other utilities.
Commissioners did not vote or make a permanent decision and the matter will be discussed further at the April 1 finance meeting.

Area Farmers Hear About Raising Yields

Tuesday at the North Dakota Winter Show, farmers learned about ways to increase yields of various crops using low-till and other methods.
The more organic matter in soil, the greater the yields of crops grown in that soil.

Barnes County commissioners discussed the advantages and disadvantages of renewing its lease in the Valley City Law Enforcement Center where the Barnes County Sheriff's Department is located, or moving the sheriff's department to a new location.
