City Hall in Valley City closed at noon today in observance of Good Friday.
Area farmers are itching to get into the fields, but Mother Nature isn't cooperating. Compared to last spring when some spring wheat had already been planted, area fields are still snow-covered. While farmers hope to get into the fields by the third week in April, a cooler than usual weather forecast may delay farmers even more.

The Monday-Thursday and Saturday Valley City farmers markets cooperate with each other, but are operated separately.
The Monday-Thursday market is having its annual organizational meeting 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Roby's. The Saturday market will have its meeting 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at AgCountry Farm Services, 220 Winter Show Road. Both meetings are open to anyone wanting to be a vendor in 2013.
Hilde Van Gijssel of Valley City State University said Thursday's Regional Science Olympiad competitions were slated to run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a 3 p.m. awards ceremony. â€śBy 4 p.m. it's all done.â€ť
The VCSU regional event took place in two divisions â€“ Division B for students in grades sixth through ninth, and Division C, for high school students in 10th through 12th grades.

Valley Fashions in Valley City will be closing its doors in the near future.
DyVonne Zinck, who owns the store with her husband George, said they started a going-out-of-business sale Wednesday, and they aren't sure how long the sale will last.
"I guess it depends on how good the sale is," Zinck said.
