Valley City doctor Madeline Luke and Physicianâs Assistant Russ Kaufmann have problems with a plan by Mercy Hospital to end use of physicianâs assistants in the hospital and provide 24-hour, seven days a week emergency room coverage by a doctor through a contract with an out-of-state company.
Dr. Luke, who works as a doctor three days per week at the Sanford Clinic, said Tuesday, âIâm concerned we will have a variety of physicians come through with no local tiesâ once the contract takes effect.

The new owners at Ashtabula Crossing are gearing up for their first annual ice fishing tournament this weekend.
Patty Hoff, who owns the resort and restaurant located at the East Lake Ashtabula crossing with her husband Scott and sister Mary Jean Cuffe, said, âweâve had lots of people requesting to have tournament here, so we did.â
