Wes andd Michele Elston are young, enthusiastic producers who have built their operation from the ground up.
They installed a manure management system in 2006, are planting cover crops, and continue to plant field, livestock and farmstead windbreaks throughout their 2,200 acre farm.
The Elstons have participated in EQUIP to enhance their grazing system and to improve soil health.
The couple has a three-year-old son, Ian, who loves riding in any tractor or farm implement when given the chance.
The First Conservation Community Fair is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Valley City Eagles Club Riverside Room.

Water from Devils Lake does not pose a big threat for catastrophic flooding in Valley City. The public learned this during a public forum Thursday sponsored by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul, Minn. District, and the City of Valley City, where they informed audience the results of the first phase of their feasibility study. The study also showed that some of the alternatives for flood risk management considered were not found to be cost effective and would not be justified for implementation as a federal project.
