UPDATE: Road Closures Due to Casselton Explosion

The following roads in Cass County are closed as a result of the Casselton, ND train derailment:
-Cass County Road 10 from N.D. State Highway 18 to N.D. State Highway 23
-154th Ave from 35th St to 36th St.

BREAKING: Evacuation Urged in Casselton After Derailment

An evacuation of the entire City of Casselton was initiated after
train carrying crude oil derailed near the city Monday setting off a series of explosions. Cass County officials urged residents to evacuate as shifting winds and a high pressure system could blow the thick, toxic smoke down into the city.

Grossman Optimistic About Clerkships

New VC Store Has Eclectic Mix of Items

Vintage Variety, a new store in Valley City, offers just what the name suggests — a variety of vintage items.
Owner Lorraine Curtis said the store has an "eclectic assortment of everything from antiques to new."
The store, located on Central Avenue next to Wells Fargo, is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 7 p.m. and other days by chance.

Bison in His Heart and in His Home: NDSU Fan Ron Berge Collects Bison

When rural Dazey man Ron Berge watches the North Dakota State University Bison football team compete for their third national championship Saturday, he'll be surrounded by family and his huge bison herd collection.
Ron is a dedicated Bison fan. He began collecting hard ironwood Bison some years after graduating from NDSU with a mechanical engineering degree in 1960.

Benefit Set for Oriska Family Who Lost Home in Fire

December 30, 2013

A benefit supper and silent auction for Andrew Gubrud and Becky Sundstrom, who lost their home in a house fire earlier this month, will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 from 5-8 p.m. at the Valley City Eagles Club. The spaghetti supper will be available for a free-will offering, and a silent auction and Ruby's Karaoke will also be held.
The family plans to rebuild this spring and are very thankful of the support they have received from the community.

Bubba's Road Home Was Rocky

Matt Milledge's dog Bubba is finally back home after he ran away from a farm where he was being temporarily boarded, but it took a trip to court and retrieving the animal from the woman who adopted the animal from the Sheyenne Valley Friends of Animals. More in Monday's issue of the Times-Record.

BCBS Adds Jobs This Year

Blue Cross Blue Shield's call center in Valley City recently added eight jobs to its office, bringing a total of 19 employees. An Economic Policy Institute study showed that each of the eight new jobs adds approximately $115,000 in economic impact, which is close to $1 million total.
Linda Skramstad, the call center's team leader, said eight new employees started Sept. 16. She said the jobs were added because it was anticipated they'd need more customer service representatives based on the new healthcare reform.
