College students donât always have the opportunity to make it home for every holiday, so Valley City State University makes sure students who stay in town over the holidays are provided a nice meal.
VCSU is teaming up with Vickyâs Viking Room to offer a Thanksgiving meal to college students who arenât able to make it home for the holiday weekend.
âIâve always felt bad that I know there are students that canât go home because itâs such a short holiday,â said Kari Stricklin, director of student activities at VCSU.
Valley City Public School students stuffed a Coca-Cola truck with 109 tubs of food last Wednesday for the Barnes County Food Shelf during its annual âStuff the Truckâ food drive.
Official charges in connection with approximately 50 Barnes County burglaries have been filed against two Valley City residents and two Minnesota residents by the Barnes County Sheriffs Department, said Sheriff Randy McClaflin.
On Thursday District Court Judge Jay A. Schmitz ordered the arrest of Barnes County residents April Robyn Kapaun, 25, and Steven Lee Hovland, 38; and Minnesota residents Broc Allen Buytaert, 32; and Betsy Lee Runkle, 31.
Schmitzâs orders said there there was sufficient probable cause for the arrest of all four suspects.

Leevers stuff-a-truck is a community-wide effort to collect much needed non-perishable food items for the local food bank. Leevers is teaming up with local organizations to raise as much food as it can during this important time of the year. Drop off your donations before Nov. 25 to help restock the Barnes County Food Pantry.

Full Nelson Karaoke, 8:30 p.m. to midnight in the Valley City American Legion Club rooms. Also at the same time on Dec. 14. Must be 21 or older to attend. The event supports Legion Baseball.

My burly husband deserves something much more inviting.
We wish a church was serving food-it would be well worth the tithing.
Those church ladies can cook this is for certain.
Those looking to score discounts and deals for holiday shopping have plenty of options as retailers across the nation open earlier and have bigger sales on Black Friday, the notorious Friday after Thanksgiving. But scoring deals on what is deemed the biggest shopping day of the year often requires camping out and rising before the sun.
The Valley City Public Schools school board discussed how special education services are paid and how the costs could be shared more equitably among a group of schools that share special education services at its regular meeting on Tuesday.
Currently, special education services, including services for blind and hearing impaired, are provided by the Sheyenne Valley Special Education Unit. VCPS partners with five other school districts; Oakes, Maple Valley, North Central/Wimbledon/Spiritwood, Hope and Page, to provide special education services.

Band and Choir students from area high schools gathered for the Barnes County Music Festival. After working together for a day, the students combined for band and choir concerts.
The DECA store at Valley City High School is the place to purchase everything Hi-Liner including clothing, outerwear, and accessories.
According to DECA advisor Scott Hurlimann, who teaches business at VCHS, students are involved with running the store from helping to choose what Hi-Liner merchandise to feature, to operating the business during activities and one day a month.
An Ottertail Power employee with strong links to Valley City is helping restore power to portions of New York state pummeled by Superstorm Sandy.
Brad Weninger of Carrington is the husband of Valley City native Lisa Weninger, said his father-in-law, Louie Nicoli of Valley City.
Lisa, a registered nurse with Foster County Public Health, said Wednesday her husband left for Long Island, N.Y., Nov. 2 with a group of 16 to 18 Ottertail Power volunteer employees to help restore power to vast areas of the state affected by the storm.
Brad works for the Ottertail Power office in Jamestown.
