Rachel Goerke officially opened Sophia Ann Photography in September 2011 after moving to Valley City from California, and is looking to make a name for herself in the portrait business. But whose name is it?
âSophia was the first cat I ever owned, and Iâve always loved that name,â Goerke said. âAnd my middle name is Ann, so I thought weâd do something fun and cute.â
Originally from the East Bay area, an hour inland from San Francisco, Goerke was studying to be pre-med with dreams of becoming a pediatrician, but found a different path calling her.

Jack Dalrymple, chair of the State Land Board, in a news release. âWe will not waiver in our commitment to help meet these changes.â

I have a memory. Oh my do I have a memory. I remember things that could have been purged long ago and far away but my memory has memorized them and thatâs all there is to it. In the 10th grade I memorized Marc Anthonyâs speech at Caesarâs funeral. I do a very impressive dramatic impression of this grand Shakespearian moment. Stop me on the street any day and Iâll prove it. The point is I donât need to know this anymore for any reason other than I do. The whole entire speech lives long in my memory-but thatâs not all.

Students at Jefferson Elementary School joined an expected 37,000 people across the U.S. and Canada who were blowing bubbles in an effort to raise autism awareness, and set a possible world record in the process.
It was a time when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, volcanoes spewed fiery lava and pterodactyls roamed the skies searching for prey.
But upon closer inspection, the dinosaurs are made of painted cardboard, and the volcano is fashioned out of yards of draped tulle, making the perfect background for Valley City High Schoolâs elaborate 2012 prom theme: âFrom the Beginning of Time to the End of Time.â
âWe just thought a prehistoric theme would be fun, and âthe end of timeâ has a little bit to do with 2012,â said VCHS art teacher and prom advisor Carol Foth.
