The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) and North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) have issued a Travel Alert for southwest and central North Dakota due to blowing snow sticking to the roadway causing scattered icy conditions. Motorists are encouraged to monitor local weather forecasts, reduce speeds and drive according to the conditions.
The Valley City Fire Department rescue squad, Barnes County Sheriff's office, Barnes County Ambulance and the North Dakota Highway Patrol responded to a multiple vehicle pile-up in the median of I-94 between exit 296 and 298 a little after 1 p.m. Friday afternoon.
Wind gusts, blowing snow and slush in the roadway made driving conditions extremely hazardous. Some injuries were reported in the wreck, which initially was just two vehicles in the median, but eventually grew to include 5 cars, a semi and a truck which had rolled to rest on its top.

The contest gives North Dakota teens the opportunity to promote traffic safety in their school and community. As an added bonus, first prize contestants are eligible to win up to $750.

Those who have been itching to get out in the fluffy stuff can dust off their cross country skis, snowshoes and ice skates to take part in ski races, hikes, snow sculpting, broomball and snow soccer.
Although weather conditions havenâ€™t been ideal for the clubâ€™s first winter season, faculty advisor Philip Deger said the Fun Fest will be a good way to kick off the clubâ€™s first big event.
