Second-graders at Jefferson Elementary school built a Christmas tree Tuesday with toilet paper collected to donate to the Abused Persons Outreach Center. Henrietta Dotting was presented with a life membership from the Order of Eastern Star, North Dakota Grand Chapter on Saturday after more than 82 years of membership. The membership was presented by members of the Woodbine Chapter, to which Dotting is now a member.
Dotting, who will turn 107 in January, joined the organization in 1930. She believes she is the oldest living Eastern Star member.
Dick and Kay Winter of Valley City took first place in the Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce’s home decorating contest this year. Dick, who takes pride in his yard, said, “It really makes you feel good; I get a lot of satisfaction on (compliments).”
The home and business decorating contest is held annually by the Chamber. They put out calls for nominations earlier this month. Kay Vinje, office manager for the Chamber, told the Times-Record that anybody can call in and nominate their own home or business or somebody else’s.
