After three months on an organ transplant recipient list, Valley City 14-month old Malley Aufenkamp received a liver transplant on Jan. 6. Her family received the call from the Amplatz Children’s Hospital transplant coordinator in Minneapolis, Minn., at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 5 that a liver had become available.
Local country musician Greg Hager is fresh off of his first award nomination, and ready to kick off a busy 2012.
Hager was recently nominated for an Academy of Western Artists award in the "Western Music - Male" category, and attended the awards show in Fort Worth, Texas, Jan. 26. As one of five award hopefuls, he stood a very good chance of receiving national recognition for his music.

The North Dakota State Water Commission will meet Thursday, Feb. 2, for an audio conference call meeting headquartered at the Governor's Conference Room on the first floor of the State Capitol Building in Bismarck at 1:30 p.m.
Agenda items include the Floodway Property Acquisition Cost Share Policy and a power supply for the East Devils Lake Outlet.
January 31st
FORT YATES, N.D. – The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the states of North Dakota and South Dakota signed an historic agreement to work together to improve traffic safety for their citizens.
Officials with the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) and the South Dakota Department of Public Safety affirmed the joint pact agreement with leaders of the Standing Rock Tribe on Monday, Jan. 30, during a ceremony at Fort Yates, N.D.
January 30th
The Valley City Times-Record is running a drawing for its Facebook friends. Between now and Feb. 13, all those who like the newspaper’s Facebook site at www.facebook.com/VCTimesRecord will be entered in a contest for a new 8 GB Apple iPod Touch.
On that day, one of those who have clicked on the “like” button during the drawing will be randomly selected and become the owner of the new iPod.
The winner will be announced Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, in the Valley City Times-Record and on our Facebook page.

The cafe is open, and music is on the menu.
Valley City High School's vocal and instrumental musicians will serve up the 24th Annual Cafe Concert on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Hi-Liner Activity Center, with evening shows at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 30 and 31.
"The brainchild I came up with was that the concert songs could be offered as a menu," said junior and senior high choir director Sheila Zinke. "It's hard to find songs about food that teenagers want to sing, so we let them pick the music for their ensembles."

The Army Corps of Engineers has been seeking public input on the operating plan for the control structure on the Tolna Coulee that will release up to 3,000 cubic feet per second of water into the Sheyenne River.
The deadline for comments is Jan. 31.

An unofficial tally of votes Tuesday night showed Bob Werkhoven keeping his title as mayor by a 268 vote margin, and Duane (Dewey) Magnuson winning the commissioner seat by a margin of 73 votes.
Werkhoven garnered 56.7% of the vote to Dean Ross's 43.3%, while Magnuson had 51.8% of total votes to Ken Evenson's 48.2%.
