Grand Opening Planned for VC FCCU

June 4, 2014

A grand opening is planned for Valley City's new First Community Credit Union the week of June 23-27. The celebration will consist of loan and CD specials, door prizes, giveaways and refreshments all week. The Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting at the new facility at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25 with a free lunch to follow that is open to the community.

Valley City State High School Football Camps Underway

Valley City State football began its annual high school team camps on Sunday, and the programs continue through Saturday.

VCSU expects more than 600 student-athletes and coaches on campus this week, from 27 different 9-Man and 11-Man teams.

Nine-Man Team Camp runs Sunday through Tuesday and is expected to include 13 teams. Eleven-Man Team Camp runs Thursday through Saturday and will feature 14 different teams.

Each camp’s final day features team scrimmages, and both camps conclude with an Overtime Challenge at 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Saturday.

Megan Johnson Wins Class B State Long Jump, Triple Jump

Enderlin-Maple Valley senior Megan Johnson won the Class B State Long Jump title at 18 feet and the Triple Jump crown at 37 feet, 6.50 inches May 23-24 in Bismarck, N.D., to which Barnes County North and LaMoure/Litchville-Marion competitors also qualified.

Kost, Carlson, Ulmer, Gibson Join Viking Volleyball in 2014

New Valley City State volleyball coach Adam Longmore announced on Thursday that Jenna Kost of Casselton, N.D., Courtney Carlson of LaMoure, N.D., Tanys Ulmer of Marion, N.D., and Billie Gibson of Blackfoot, Idaho have all committed to attend VCSU and play volleyball for the Vikings this fall.

Allyson Suhr Returns to Valley City State

Allyson Suhr, Valley City State women’s basketball’s latest addition, is a familiar face for local fans.

Viking women’s basketball coach Jill DeVries announced Thursday that Valley City native Allyson Suhr has signed a letter of intent to attend Valley City State and play for the Vikings this fall.

Suhr, a 2012 Hi-Liner graduate, played the last two seasons at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, N.D.

Driver Identified in Fatal Fingal Crash

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the name of the driver killed in a crash near Fingal early Monday morning is Timothy Stark of Wausau, Wisc.

The accident occurred on Highway 32, 10 miles south of I-94 near Fingal. Stark, 56, was northbound on Highway 32 and entered a curve. While negotiating the curve, the SUV crossed the southbound lane and partially drove off the west shoulder, according to Sergeant Tom Herzig of the North Dakota State Patrol.

Edwards Challenges Werkhoven in Valley City Mayoral Race

For the next several days, the Times-Record will run a series of profiles of candidates in upcoming city and county elections.

In the run for Valley City Mayor, incumbent Bob Werkhoven faces Jeff Edwards.
In recent interviews, each of the candidates were asked one question: "If you are elected (or re-elected) mayor, what are your goals for your term?"

Ryan Brock Named Eagle Scout of Honor

Ryan M. Brock, 17, a senior at Valley City High School and a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City, was named an Eagle Scout of Honor Friday, May 30 at the church.

He is the son of Terence Brock and Dalene Brock, Valley City.
Ryan’s positions in Troop 560 include Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. Offices held in Order of the Arrow include Chapter Vice Chief, Chapter Chief, Founders Award Committee Chair and Secretary of Chapter.

NDSCS Continues to Seek Help Finding Missing Student Andrew Sadek

This Sunday marked the one-month milestone of missing North Dakota State College of Science student Andrew Sadek. Sadek, who was enrolled at the NDSCS Wahpeton Campus, is the son of John and Tammy Sadek and a native of Rogers, N.D. Currently, no new leads in the case have led to Sadek’s whereabouts.

NDSCS Campus Police are continuing to work closely with other law enforcement agencies on any and all leads related to Sadek’s disappearance. The safe return of Sadek to his parents, friends and the NDSCS community remains the focus of this ongoing investigation.
