PEO Tour of Homes This Week

September 18, 2014

The P.E.O. Tour of Homes, sponsored by Chapter AZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, will be held Sunday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Four Valley City area homes and one guest inn will be featured on this year’s tour. They are the homes of Joanne and Tim Kadrmas, 1215 Fifth Ave NW; Jenny and Jerad Enger, 1217 Fifth Ave NW; Alison and Josh Kasowski, 961 9thAve NE; Erin and Luther Dietrich, 907 9thAve NE; and the Red Door Guest Inn, above Unique Antiques at 148 Main St. East. Parking is available between the Dietrich and Kasowski homes as it is a comfortable walking distance.

SA Declines Charges in Fatal Accident

Barnes County States Attorney Carl Martineck Wednesday said he has decided to file no charges against the driver of a pickup truck that struck a 92-year-old woman in Valley City June 22, resulting in her death June 30.

Rita Weber, a pedestrian struck by a pickup truck June 22 in Valley City, died of her injuries.

Weber, 92, was walking along Central Avenue North and was in the crosswalk at Central Avenue North and Sixth Avenue Northwest when she was struck by a Ford F-150 driven by by Robert J. Mittleider, 32, of Valley City.

Supply Drive Ends Friday

A supply drive held at the First Community Credit Union for the Abused Persons Outreach Center ends Friday. Items can be dropped off at a donation table inside the bank at 115 Fifth Avenue Northeast in Valley City. More in Thursday's Times-Record.

Boys Tennis Making a Racket

Hi-Liner boys tennis is getting better, just in time for Sept. 25’s Regionals in Grand Forks.

Dalton Ondracek and Brandon Miller won their first No. 1 Doubles match at the West Fargo Invite on Sept. 13, splitting sets in the match to get to the semifinals, which would have guaranteed them fourth, but fell in the super tie-breaker. Ondracek and Miller won two matches on the consolation side and played to seven-all in the fifth-place match, an eight-game pro-set, but South proved too much and won, 9-7.

Gallagher Wins Sheyenne Shuffle

Fifty-eight-year-old Dale Gallagher took first in Saturday’s 5k Sheyenne Valley Shuffle, from which participants set out from and finished at Valley City State University, edging 38-year-old David Musgrave by only 18 seconds.

BC Blesses Golf Course Proposal

Meeting Tuesday, Barnes County Commissioners voted 3-1 to back a proposal by the Valley City Parks and Recreation District to stop losing the public Bjornson Golf Course to the Sheyenne River. More in Wednesday's issue of the Times-Record.

I-94 Entry May be Blocked

The North Dakota Department of Transportation is considering closing the Cuba entrance onto Interstate 94 for an entire summer when it does a reconstruction project in 2017, District Engineer John Thompson said Tuesday. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.

School Board Supports Wellness Center

The Valley City Public School Board unanimously voted during its regular Monday meeting to support the concept to build the proposed Valley City Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center as well as support permanent flood protection. More in Wednesday's Times-Record.

Farmers Market Still Open

September 17, 2014

The Valley City Farmers Market is still going strong and will have a first day of fall celebration on Monday, Sept. 22 at the Rosebud Parking Lot from 4 to 6 p.m.

Visitors will be treated to apple cider and doughnut holes. Read more in Wednesday's Times-Record.

Horseshoe Championships to the Operating Table

The last three weeks have been a busy time for Wilbur Gabel.

First up, three weeks ago Wilbur won the State Elders Singles Championship in Horseshoes for the third consecutive year, then last weekend he and his Grandson Noah teamed up to win the State Class A Doubles Championship.

Noah also won his fourth State Cadet Singles Championship the week before.
