Valley City Legion Post 60, guaranteed a spot in July 30â€™s Class A State Tournament in Wahpeton, N.D. after Thursdayâ€™s 6-5 Regional win over Harvey, secured the East No. 4 seed with Saturdayâ€™s 4-2 consolation quarterfinal loss to Grafton.
Post 60 entered consolation after falling 10-2 to Wahpeton on Thursday.
Grafton forced Wahpeton into a second title game with a 3-1 win, but Wahpeton held on, 8-5, in the finisher.
Wahpeton goes to State No. 1, Grafton No. 2 and Casselton No. 3.
The Sheyenne Valley Community Foundation has awarded its first grants after forming in November of 2013, said Alicia Hoffarth, secretary/treasurer for the foundation board. More in Friday's issue of the Times-Record.
A public informational meeting to discuss options for floodwalls in the first phase of permanent flood protection in Valley City is planned for Tuesday, July 29 at 7 p.m. in the Skoal Room at the Valley City State University Student Center.
During the meeting, engineers from KLJ will present residents with several appearance options for floodwalls that will be located along College Street and Fifth Avenue Southwest. Valley City city officials will also be available to answer questions.

A two-semi accident on I-94 east of Valley City left both drivers with minor injuries Thursday morning.

Valley City Legion Post 60 carry the No. 3 seed into Thursdayâ€™s Grafton Regional Tournament after a 3-13 regular season campaign and look to hit their stride starting with an 11 a.m. debut against Harvey.
â€śThere isnâ€™t a team with better players position-by-position,â€ť said Post 60 head coach Kyle Roelfsema of his squad intent on reducing mistakes in key moments that contributed to seven losses of three or fewer runs.
Thursdayâ€™s winner faces Wahpeton at 4 p.m. Thursday, the loser the Grafton-Casselton loser at 6:30 p.m Thursday.
Post 60 scored 4.75 runs per contest and gave up 12.1.
