VCSU Music Faculty Recital

January 21, 2014

The Valley City State University faculty will present a recital on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Froemke Auditorium on the VCSU campus. The evening of music will encompass a variety of styles featuring both vocal and instrumental selections. The public is cordially invited to attend.  Adult admission is $5; VCSU faculty, staff and students are admitted with their identification cards.

U.S., State and Local Officials Discuss Casselton

U.S. Senators Heidi Heitkamp (D-NPL) and John Hoeven (R) along with U.S. Representative Kevin Cramer (R) and North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple (R), met Saturday with officials from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad and other state and local officials to discuss what went wrong in Casselton on Dec. 30 when a train carrying N.D. Crude Oil derailed forcing an evacuation of the city, and what could be done to prevent other such tragedies.

Meland Sets Record at Northern State Open

January 21, 2014

Valley City State sophomore standout Jessica Meland set a new school record in the women’s weight throw with a heave of 14.09 meters (46 feet, 2 inches), breaking her old school record of 13.26 meters (43 feet, 6 inches) for a third-place finish Saturday as Viking track and field opened its indoor season Saturday at the Northern State Open in Aberdeen, S.D.

Precision Ag Summit in Jamestown

A Precision Agriculture Summit is set today (Monday) and Tuesday in Jamestown, said Sadie Rudolph of Flint Communications. Times for the summit will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and will take place at the North Dakota Farmers Union Conference Center, 1415 12thAve. SE. Animal Neglect in Kathryn

Kathryn woman Ginger Helland, who lives in Oak Hill Township, faces several charges in Barnes County for mistreatment and improper disposal of several horses that died from starvation.

Group Raising Money to Provide Service Dogs to ND Vets

A local group of people called, Team Paws4WARD, plans to host a "Purses for a Purpose" event to secure funds for North Dakota veterans in need of a service dog for their invisible wounds, said Crystal Nehlich, who's on the team with Karmel Wanzek and Nathan McGough.

Maple Valley Girls Three-peat at Barnes County Tournament

January 20, 2014

Top-seeded Maple Valley claimed their third straight Barnes County Girls Basketball Tournament championship on Saturday with a 45-30 win over No. 2 Enderlin.

LaMoure/Litchville-Marion took third place by beating Sargent Central, 55-50.

Barnes County North finished fifth by beating Griggs County Central, 28-24.
