The Valley Development Corporation requested to use $500,000 from the city economic development fund toward construction of the Valley City Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center. Kasidy Tibke, a sophomore at Valley City High School, has set a lofty goal and is now looking for help in raising $5,000 for the Barnes County Relay for Life. Tibke and her family, who've been affected by cancer, have been a part of the Relay for many years.
On Friday, June 12 as the Barnes County Relay for Life kicks off its 16th annual event, on the south lawn of the Barnes County Courthouse, Tibke will be preparing for her life-changing challenge event.

Valley City Junior Senior High School art students will show off their artwork from the past semester this (Monday) evening at an art show.
The show will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the cafeteria and junior high halls. Junior high art is taught by Carol Foth and senior high art is taught by Kelly Callahan.
Some of the stories that will be talked about today: House Republicans are on track to pass legislation to authorize the construction of the contentious Keystone XL oil pipeline. It's still not immediately clear even within the Obama administration whether rogue hackers or other governments disrupted North Korea's networks last month. Obama administration officials are not providing any details about the proposal to give every American student two years of community college for free... no word on where the money would come to pay for it.
At a regular Barnes County Commission meeting Tuesday commissioners voted 5-0 to authorize Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin to contract with Stutsman County to house Barnes County prisoners when the jail in Valley City is full. More in Friday's Times-Record.
The Barnes County Wildlife Club gave away three awards at its annual membership and landowner appreciation supper Wednesday evening at the Valley City Eagles Club. More in Friday's Times-Record.
A new phone scam involving an angry man claiming to be the victim of a hit-and-run accident has hit the area.
The scam involves using a spoofed phone number so it appears to be a call from a local number. The caller, who is usually belligerent, claims the victim damaged his vehicle and demands insurance information and/or payment for the damages.
